PAM support for login, ftpd, telnetd?

About SplackI was able to install Linux-PAM on Splack (ultra 5) after installing cracklib, and could install OpenSSH with the \"--with-pam\" option and it successfully calls PAM. But I need to enable PAM support for \"login\", \"ftpd\" and \"telnetd\", on Splack 8.0. Is this even possible? I\'ve spent the last several days trying to make this work without much success. I\'ve updated util-linux-2.12q and shadow-4.0.9 but that doesnt seem to make a difference. Please, someone tell me to either stop trying, or give me some pointers as to whether it\'s even possible???.. By the way, I like the dist, and could participate in adding some security features if interested.

Thanks,
D

Splack follows Slackware, which does not support PAM.
This is a security policy introduced by Patrick Volkerding who believes (correctly IMHO) that PAM introduces more security issues than it solves.
That said, others have done this on Slackware so a Google search in Google Groups alt.os.linux.slackware should find some answers.

This is not a simple task, PAM permeates many utilities, all of which need to be recompiled with PAM support.
