Splack 12.1 rc9 is ready

VersionsGood news everyone! Splack 12.1 release candidate 9 is online and doing fine!
Gregsparc has once again toiled for long hours under the glare of a hot monitor to bring you the very best for all your SPARC software needs. Be aware there are a number of rough edges that may take some wizardry to overcome. The 12.1 rc9 is intended as a starting point for tracking modern releases, but we need your help to make the 12.1 final release shine.

Download the CD-ROM images from
ftp://ftp.splack.org/pub/splack/splack-12.1-iso
or individual packages from

Don't forget, we are mirrored internationally! For quickest download times, find the one closest to you on the Splack mirror directory.

Find a problem? Want to help? Join us on freenode.net IRC in the #splack channel. We're looking for everyone from documentation divas to the lowliest kernel hacker. ;-)

Please be aware that there are known problems with X.
On some machines this might only be a configuration file issue.
HELP WANTED, if you can fix this please let us know.

I'll also add that Sparc32 might be a dead platform unless someone can step up and get a working 2.6 kernel and silo. Size limits prevent a reasonable kernel from working without a silo hack.
The silo hack unfortunately keeps some sparc64 machines from booting. Also for unknown reasons, the few sparc32 systems I have access to appeared to have kernel instability issues.

If you want to take a stab at getting this working, please do! Find us in #splack on freenode.
